Prospective Pipers

Your bagpiping instruction begins on a “practice chanter” (a small mouth blown instrument similar in size and sound to a recorder).  We offer group lessons to folks interested in ultimately joining the band.  (For those who are not interested in joining the band, private lessons may be an option.) A “session” of group lessons are offered for a nominal fee (usually 7-8 group lessons) and payment is required in advance.  The student learns the basic fingering and embellishments while learning ever increasingly complicated tunes. Only after the student memorizes six to eight band tunes are they encouraged to invest in a set of bagpipes. Once on bagpipes, instruction continues on proper blowing, marching, tuning, and instrument maintenance.

"How long until I'm on pipes?" That depends on the student’s commitment to practice and abilities. The general range is between 6 and 18 months.

Lessons are scheduled on Saturday mornings at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church located at 40th and Main in Kansas City, Missouri
