We offer free lessons in Highland Bagpiping! Our instructors have decades of teaching and playing experience. You must have basic music reading abilities. Although there are a number of internet based learning resources, nothing compares to direct tutoring by an experienced instructor. Before buying any equipment or tutor books, contact us.
Your bagpiping instruction begins on a “practice chanter” (a small mouth blown instrument similar in size and sound to a recorder). A one-time material fee includes a new practice chanter, reed, and instruction book. The student learns the basic fingering and embellishments while learning ever increasingly complicated tunes. Only after the student memorizes six to eight band tunes are they encouraged to invest in a set of bagpipes. Once on bagpipes, instruction continues on proper blowing, marching, tuning, and instrument maintenance.
"How long until I'm on pipes?" That depends on the student’s commitment to practice and abilities. The general range is between 6 and 18 months.
Lessons are scheduled on Saturday mornings at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church located at 40th and Main in Kansas City, Missouri
